Temp Gauge not moving
« on: 15 September 2008, 13:15:09 »

sorry been away for a while but now i've got a fairly simple problem.... no idea where to start to sort it tho.

the temperature gauge doesn't move anymore! :(

could it be anything to do with a tiny hole in the top of the radiator that means the system gets slightly topped up every fortnight?

thanks for your thoughts....

One last Omega on the drive, one Corsa on the lawn...maybe they'll go to a good home before too long!

You don't say what your vehicle is (good idea to update your profile so people know age/engine etc).

but if you can, worth doing a paper clip test and reporting back on any codes.

Are you sure its not moving AT ALL?  If its moving a bit, it could well be your thermostst is stuck open.

sorry bout the profile, i was on here all the time so it became less specific!

i'm talking bout the 2.0GLS estate, and yes the gauge doesn't move at all.

i'm just gonna look up a how-to for paperclipping as i've seen it done but never got round to it... don't wanna get the wrong holes!

Is the stat stuck open?

Does the top hose get slowly hot and then suddenly scoulding or is it a very gradual thing?

Does the temp gauge move at all is your stationary with the aircon off?

Also check the single lucar type connector on the raer of the engine which is the temp gauge sender

First thing - make sure the spade connector hasn't fallen off the probe on the back of the cylinder head!

thanks for the tips guys.

James.... is there a pic anywhere of what probe/position i may be looking for?

Mark. i don't know if the stat is open or not :( i also don't know if the hose gets slowly or quickly hot as i tend to be in the drivers seat when the engine is on. i will test tomorrow from cold! oh and no the temp gauge doesn't move at all in any scenario.

i think it mostly likely a loose connector! although i have found a few spare looking ones lurking round the engine bay!
