tunnie becomes a VW driver?
« on: 01 November 2007, 12:27:25 »

I think i posted it before, http://www.streetcar.co.uk

You can rent a car for £4.95 per hour (07 Plate VW Golf)

You get 30 miles of free petrol, no under 25 surcharges. No rental offices it has an Oyster style entry system

I started looking again at this, because my millage has plunged!

http://www.streetcar.co.uk/location.aspx?location=187

This is just around the corner from me, litterally a 30 second walk.

From my calucations (if i pop home for the weekend)

£49 for the car for the weekend

£27 in total for petrol there and back.

I can see myself going back home less and less soon.....

Certinaly makes me wonder if about keeping my car  :-/

Oh dear.  :-?

You'd obviously still have to keep the car though, you're just being silly there.  ;)

Years ago a mate of mine joined a classic car scheme for the same reason. For the annual cost he used to pay to run his Ford Escrot he joined the scheme which covers evertything except petrol. He doesn't need a car Mon-Fri and often not at weekends either. He gets a number of points per year which gets him use of cars in the collection.

So, when he occasionally needs a car for the weekend instead of getting the jump leads out and trying to start his 1992 1.4 Escort he phones up and squanders a few points on a Carrera RS .. or an E type. Pretty much everything available from ancient to modern, priceless to mundane. He was driving a nice 996 last time I saw him. When it spat out a load of smoke and engine oil in my face when I was following him, he just returned it with a note that it needs looking at! If points get a bit tight you can always have something less exotic.

Seemed a nice idea to me if you have to live in the smoke, especially as he doesn't need to pay out a fortune for a parking space now.

Have it delivered directly to the Nurburgring. It'll work out cheaper  :P
