Facelift Alarm Problem Revisited
« on: 16 September 2008, 08:27:42 »

Posted yesterday in electrical with no response so had a think last night and tried something out to try and confirm where the problem lies with the alarm.

The other ppost was around the anti tilt system because of where the alarm was going off but on reflection it was going off only after trips of about ten miles. After switching off and setting the alarm there is a gap of 25 minutes each time before the alarm goes off.  Longer or shorter trips are not an issue at the moment.

I would guess that the power sounder should be the target and guess it is only being charged enough to last tthe 25 minutes or so and then triggering a voltage drop.

The main battery seems to be fine and there is nothing I know of that is drawing current that it shouldn't be.

Power sounder?/ What do you think?

TA,

Steve

Sounds reasonable to me ... the powersounder is known to get dodgy as the battery fails .. and a new battery is somewhat expensive. Unplugging the Powersounder as described in many similar threads may be the answer..

Thnks for that.

I guess the next stage will be disconnect and try the 10 mile scenario again to confirm.

This is certainly one of the failure modes I noted when my power sounder failed. :y

Just been quoted £55 + Vat for a new power sounder so not too scary, especially if it led to the insurance being voided for having an incomplete system.

Can anyone confirm that this is the case. Don't want to change it and then find out I need to fork out another £40 to get it to talk to the car. Wouldn't have thought so if it is a straight change out but wouldn't be surprised to find it is another money maker for the dealer.

Cheers,

I read in an Astra forum that if you leave the ignition on while you disconnect the old sounder and keep it on until the new sounder is fitted you do not need to use a Tech 2. Maybe worth a try!
