torque con seal
« on: 20 September 2008, 00:31:07 »

hi all just bought a 2.5 v6 cdx and i love it,my question is has anybody changed the front torque converter oil seal?if so is it difficult?i have access to ramps.the symptoms are the atf dripping out of the box onto the exhaust running along the exhaust and then firing up the tailgate and back window.i have checked for cracks etc in the casing and the box does work as it should untill the fluid gets low which takes about 3 or 4 weeks.thanks everybody

Not particularly difficult...but really need 2 people to hold the box when its undone...its 75Kg...88Kg with the torque converter still attached...and some of the bolts are a bit tricky/fiddly to get to...

jesus & i thought i was the only one, anyhow V6EST as MC says its a heavy box but if you have 2 trolley jacks you can drop it down on those, the oil seal is held by 3 little torx bolts so [as ive got to do] i would just move the box enough to get the t/c off & change the seal under the car then you can jack it straight back up, of course make sure the car is well supported as youve got to get it up fairly high for comfort & clearance, mines a diesel so not sure what problems there are getting to the bellhousing bolts on yours but if MC says they are tricky then they are tricky, believe me i`ll be thinking of you when im doing mine :'(

Got genuine spec one for about £17 from Autovaux a couple of years ago.

Main dealer wanted similar price to yours back then...

ive just bought one from JPAT & after negotiations i got it for £8-42 including vat,p&p & 50% discount, ive PM`ed TB about arrangements for OOF members getting 50% off anything from JPAT, so if you phone them on 01934 852772 & explain you are in this club & youve been told the discount & see how it goes, oh & its same day postage before 5-00pm & if urgent will courier & charge accordingly, & with my luck with g/boxes i`ll be using them rather alot!,,,,good luck! :y

changed my oil seal today, it is alot better but still a slight drip, this must be due to the t/c being a bit more damaged than it looks, yes i was told to check it & i did as much as possible & got it smooth again but without intricate tools you can only check so much, so im after a t/c & a bell housing wouldnt go amiss as ive had to patch mine up a bit,,,any offers? or does anybody know of a magic adictive i can put in to stop this drip, im using the car now as i need to & i need a break from dropping g/boxes out, im looking like popeye on steroids after all the lifting ive done just lately :o
