High pitched noise
« on: 26 September 2008, 10:04:22 »

Hi
Finally got my Omega 2.5 CDX (cam belt and pullies done), drives like a dream, though wondring if any one could help? When the throttle is in no mans land ie just resting foot on accelerator there is a high pitched whistle (not air) it sounds like a dentists drill or two ceramic surfaces rubbing together at high speed. Throttle off no noise throttle open as in accelleration no noise, I know I could turn up the radio but that's like burrying your head in the sand. Tends to be when she's been running for a while too.  Anyone come across this before?
Regards
Bob

possible air intake related? Leaking plenum seals or a vac leak possibly. What direction is the noise coming from. Engine bay or cabin?

HI and thanks for the response.
Noise is external with window wound down, appears rear engine/gearbox area can't detect with bonnet up and engine running.
Noise is like two surfaces rubbing together, though only in this no man's land throttle position. Would expect if air leak to increase with speed of engine? Wondering if it could be gearbox?

Just come in lifted bonnet  surroundings quiet looks as though noise is comming from rear of engine, whislte goes on tick over and when throttle opens. Too dark to see fully there appears to be a lot of tube down there and when I move one component whistle gets louder then dies. It sound exactly like what I am hearing. Will persue in the day light tomorrow.
Thanks for all the pointers.
