Bizarre - but is it a crime?
« on: 01 November 2007, 22:25:34 »

How's this for a story?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/10/26/nsex126.xml

I have to say I feel quite sorry for the bloke. Behind locked doors I thought anyone could do what they want, however bizarre. He wasn't endangering anyone, so why the Sex Offenders Register?  :o

Strange choice of partner but.. I don't see what he's done to break the law.

He's obviously only a risk to bicycles, and they don't have rights? Was the bicycle underage?

...Behind locked doors I thought anyone could do what they want, however bizarre...

What if it was someone underage, someone who hasn't given consent, a beaten wife, for example?

That quote doesn't, and shouldn't apply.

Yes, Kev, of course it doesn't include non-consensual acts - thanks for pointing that out. I'm sure most will get the gist of what I was saying, though.  :y

No, i don't mean all non-consensual acts, obviously if it had been a sheep then that would be perfectly ok.  :y

I do, and I can't see the crime....

To put him on the "offenders" register, he needs to commit an offence. What is the offence, here?

No idea. That's what's so strange. I actually checked the dateline to make sure it wasn't 1st April!

The answer to the question is that, as soon as the cleaners entered the room, it became a public place. Rightly or wrongly, that is the law.

Never heard of 'Sexual Breach of the Peace' though. That sounds like a scottish one to me.  :y

If anyone's breached anyone else's peace it's the workers who walked in on him. He obviously locked the door if they had to use a master key to get in. Why he didn't reply when they knocked I don't know. He could at least have explained that they really didn't want to know what he was doing!

Now, sha66ing Raleighs 'aint most people's cup of tea but it's a bit harsh putting him in the same boat as the kiddy fiddlers, I reckon. What you choose to do behind closed doors is nobody else's business, provided it doesn't hurt anyone.

Defeats the whole object of a sex offender's register if they're going to dilute it like this IMHO.
