Sorting out some niggles...
« on: 02 October 2008, 21:00:23 »

OK a couple of niggles I've come across that I hope you guys n gals can suggest a cure.

1st I know what it it is so here goes... every so often (normally when at red lights or a junction) I get a whiff of burning oil. Instantly thought cam covers. So at work tonight pulled the front left (looking from the front of the car back) plug lead and sure enough 3/4" of oil on it! so thats job number 1.

2nd is the coolant level warning on the MID, no coolant loss although it looks like rusty water as oppose to pink so a flush in order and a refill. Is the coolant sensor a regular failure? Whats the easiest remedy?

3rd is the MID loads of missing pixels so looked on the ole fleabay and found this...

Seller claims it's from a 96 3.0 auto, but the date is on the top on mine but same plugs on the back (black and yellow). Does it matter? Prolly need tech2'ing anyway.

Final niggle for now. is a whiney diff common? On deceleration it sounds like the back end of the car is from a late 70's auto coach! Speed linked whine and on accelleration has a different noise more graunchy and deeper sounding but the whine is still there. Dry diff? Fooked or no?

Here ends war and peace  ;D Thoughts please :y

Lee.

Hi Lee,
Ist problem change your cam cover gaskets with original VX only parts as pattern parts don't last "you've been warned" ;). Clean breather system and may be best to fit new leads and plugs.

2nd problem, yes coolant level sensors often stick but with a clean can work again, did for me anyway and is still working :-X, but if no luck a new bottle is about £30 from VX :).

3rd, if it's the one i saw earlier on eBay the # 90379234 is the same as mine and is for the early 3.0L(96). The picture he shows of the front of the unit however i think you will find is for a Vectra because it has the rounded shoulders but the rear picture is correct :-?.

4th, As for the diff, have you checked the oil level and if correct you could try an additive but if to far gone then probably a good S/H unit may be the best way to go :y.

   Hope i've been of help,
                                   Pete.
