Cleaned AICV and jet, revs still erratic, what next
« on: 30 September 2008, 17:34:06 »

I have followed all cleaning procedures and air leak checks I can find on site, but my 1994 2.0 (manual) is still erratic .  I checked and replaced all breathers, cleaned the intake jet and have replaced gaskets and cleaned thoroughly the AICV but obviously did not dismantle it.  Could the jet assembly and spring just be worn out?  By the way, the  low pressure jet  from the cam was blocked and all associated parts were blocked and filthy. Can I replace AICV with one from a later or different model? :)

Have you done the paperclip test?  Any codes?

You could try another IACV, as they can go faulty with age.

Hi, yes, I have done the paperclip test and no codes came up at all, I thought I might clean it out again in case a last bit of muck has been drawn through.  If not, any more suggestions? many thanks.

If no codes then I agree with Dazzler, just replace it.  You can use any ICV off the vauxhall X20XEV (2.0 ecotec) range of engines (omegas, vectras etc).  Think the 1.8 ecotec is the same as well but will need someone to confirm that.  The v6 ICV's are different.

Hi I did all that and eventually removed the intake manifold to find the gasket in a very poor condition.  Replaced the gasket and it was fine  ... until now.

I think my crank sensor is throwing a wobbly now, seems to be blowing back through the throttle body, getting tired of it now.

Check and clean Maf sensor and is installed correct way round (has arrow on it) also on 2.0 eco,s Crank sometimes starts to through a intermitant wobbly if the oil filter is dripping oil on to the sensor connector (dont use wd40 to clean connectors ((more oil)).

did you replace the gaskets (ICV and throttle body).  Worth doing as they cost pennies.  also check the white vac pipe that goes round the back has not come off or broken.

I have replaced the gaskets and even some of the pipes which were squishy and /or blocked.  It never settles down properly and just when you think its driving well (Unfortunately I still have to use it daily like this) it starts revving.  It also seems worse when you change gear. (manual box).   My last hope is to replace IACV npw and throttle valve body coz Ive now stripped a thread by overtightening IACV whilst trying to exclude air leaks! :-[ :)  Never mind, it will be sorted!

Please refer me to the location of MAF sensor and any other bits I can access and clean.
