Engine Light ON
« on: 14 October 2008, 08:42:18 »

On my way to work this morning, driving in traffic at a steady 55mph, no knocks, bumps, misfires or anything else and 'bing' on comes the engine light. I stop, switch off and check oil etc but all appears OK. No other lights or messages. However, [here we go] at the weekend we dicovered that the offside cam cover [recently changed] is leaking as one of the plug wells had oil in it. Could the light on issue be related to that? if not HELP; is it safe to drive as tonight I have to drive 100 miles home. Not sure if I can contact TheBoy for a Tech2.... what d'ya think?

0155 - O2 sensor heater circuit malfunction (Bank 2 Sensor 1)
1700 - Fuel trim malfunction (Bank 1)
0420 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)
0430 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)

The last two are pretty normal on the 2.6 and 3.2.......the first two are more intersting.

Is the car running OK?

Which lamp is on? The one with a picture of the engine or the one with a picture of the car with a spanner through it?

Well it was this morning. After the light came on and I did a few checks I drive from Buckingham to Bicester about 10 miles. All appears to be well. If the plug well was full or something like, could that cause it?

Engine

OK, the confusion on this is that the one with an engine is actually the Emissions lamp and the one with the spanner on is the engine management lamp!

I know that's the case on 2.2/2.6/3.2 at least!  ::)

are you sure those are correct numbers? Its difficult i know, made me go boss eyed  :D doing that video. As i think mark touched on, with oil in the plug wells you would expect a missfire code.  Could it be the cat issue has just happened to rear its ugly head at the wrong time and complicate matters.
Bit of a coincidence to get both cat codes at the same time though? Maybe The Boy can count with aid of his lovely Tech 2? :-)

Thanks for that. With all the problems I've had over the last 2/3 months I'm not surpised if the car gets confused  ;D. I think a little later I'l take a video on my fone a then read back in 'slow time'. :D :D
