« on: 15 October 2008, 14:48:19 »

Hi Guys

I want to Service my Car this month and need to get a oil filter and air filter. What else needs to be done on the car, I know i have to do a oil change. Can anyone recomend a supplier for the Filters?

Cheers

if youve got a haynes manual it has a section on servicing, i got my filter & oil from my local factors, nice & cheap & it was vx oil!, you might want to have a squint at the brake pads by looking through a hole in the wheels.

first thing to do is get yourself a trade club card, visit autobahn stormers and join. The card should arrive in couple of days and gives money off vx service parts. Youll get the the join fee back and then some first time you use it.
Air fuel and pollen filter... Vx?
Oil and filter cheapest from vx on t.c. card.
Plugs, same. Every 40k
Cam belt kit about 100 but can be had cheaper on e bay from gates or contitech. Use a locking kit! Easy then. 40k or 4 years.
Change atf every 60k dexron 3.not cheapest from vx...£ 2 gaskits and clean or replace filter depending on condition.
Brake fluid halfords. Also do a trade club, blag it.
Pads and discs, vx on trade club. Said to be best value.
Coolant.50/50 mix vx or halfords not sure cheapest?
And clean breather system to stop your cam covers blowing.
All depends on your mileage and when last done. Hth

I find my local auto factors spectacularly good and fantastic value.

They take the car reg to determine the parts required and haven't got it wrong yet.

Bargain parts include:

Dash bulb  14p+VAT
Wipers (no spoiler) £1.64 + VAT each
Rear brake discs (really nicely machined pair) £24 + VAT for pair

Depending on where you are in Wales you might be able to get to GMF near Newport - not the place I got the parts above - but used them a few times and in the same ballpark.

Vx trade club is excellent - but actually I think some parts can be a bit lacking e.g. front disc and pad set has really grabby pads, no where near as good as the ones that came off.
