facelift leather passenger seat back fallen off!
« on: 27 October 2008, 19:39:06 »

I'm about to pick up my miggy tomorrow - woohoo! The bloke who sold it to me has told me that the passenger seat back panel has fallen off - he did admit it was loose when I bought the car - and he's said that the clips that hold it on are broken and need replacing.

I would imagine it's a five minute job - anybody know if there's a part code for the clips from VX so I can ring round the local stealers without going through the usual 'dunno what they are' approach from some 19 year old spotty phone answerer?

Ta. It's an 02 Elite if that helps.  :)

Check if the clips are actually broken .. on mine it just "slots" in place and is secured by 2 screws at the base ... the back fell off when the screws worked loose ... 1 minute with a screwdriver and a bit of "loc-tite" and the problem has never recurred  :)

I have a PRE face lift car, and the seat backs are held in place by two 'fingers' that locate at the top of the seat. There is a screw through each bottom corner of the seat back. On mine, the seat back was lose because the plastic of the seat back had broken around the locating screw. Mine has survived the last couple of years with Alraldite holing the corner of the seat back togther.
I assume the face lift will be tha same.

Exactly the same with mine, but on both sides. new screws (you may even find them in the foot-well) and some loctite.

I fixed SP 3.2's one day whilst he was at mine too, so it is a very common and easily sorted issue.

Cheers - i'll have a squint at it tomorrow when I pick the car up. Hopefully he hasn't been to careful in cleaning it and the screws are still there.  ;)

If they aren't there, they are identical to the screws at the bottom of the front door card.

You can use those to get new matching ones. You can even do what I did as a temporary measure and "borrow" the middle one of the 3 from the bottom of each front door card and use them in the hole on the outer bottom corner of the seat backs to hold hem in place. That did me for 6 months until I bothered to get new ones. I used the new ones in the front door cards. :y
