Passed MOT but...
« on: 28 October 2008, 20:26:29 »

Hello everyone. Today i took my Omega in for an MOT and it passed but had an Advisory Notice on the Nearside Steering pivot point has slight play [2.2.b.1g] :-?. Has anyone had this problem before and what is involved getting it repaired. I am glad it passed but being so careful with my car i hate anything being wrong with it and would like to fix it myself if possible.
Thanks :)

This is the steering Idler arm. This can be sorted by replacing with a new one which you can get from fleeybay for about £15 ish.

Hi Keiran, that is commonly called the steering idler it's not a hard fix but you need a taper breaker as part of the removal process, there should be a how to do it in the maintence section.

No its not a hard job to do, just the correct tools Saturday or Sunday afternoon alot of swearing if you have any problems. Just remember to soak the nut and the idler arm in good penatrating oil or deseizing spray.

Or a pair of 2lb hammers!  :y Judicious tapping/knocking I think is the phrase used.  ;D
