Whys my mig hitting the rev limiter?!?
« on: 24 October 2008, 21:19:18 »

Not sure why, but the Omega has hit the rev limiter a few times recently.

I set off at a junction tonight, and decided to give it a foot full (like you do!) and it hit the limiter when changing between 1st and 2nd! The car actually slowed down as it hit the limiter just before it changed! - I felt myself move forwards in my seat even :(

Car has done it in both normal and sport mode a few times (was in normal mode tonight). It changes fine from 2nd to 3rd though  :-/

Anyone else’s auto's do this? Any ideas?

might be to do with the oilways in the gearbox as they control gearchanges using hydraulic pressure, mines only ever hit the rev limited when i'v held it in first

My engine light is on... but thats been on for almost a yr now :s

IIRC the light is something to do with the secondary air valve.  :-/

Will check and see if anythink new has appeared.

When you say limiter...you mean it wont rev past 4500rpm as its gone into safe mode??? Usually a sign of crankshaft or camshaft sensor failing...

Is this a one event or does  do it every time you clog it.
Was the car cold or hot ?

Its done it 3 times in the past few weeks.

Ive just been out in it again, and it changed JUST in time twice 1st - 2nd (2nd -3rd is fine)

Didnt have enough road to do anymore tests!  ;D

The worst its done it (tonight) the car had been parked up for about an hr. I jumped in it, started it up and was talking to a mate for 5 mins before it moved - so temp was almost half way on the dash by that point, drove half a mile, then opened it up.

Other two times, the car was fully warmed up.

Haven't tried it cold, try not rev engine over 4.5k till shes warm  :)

I was just reading this in horror and was about to question your driving technique, when I realised you are talking about a slush box!  ;D

Change it for a proper gearbox!  :P

hehehe each to their own I guess. My parents gave me their Granada as my first car with a 4 speed slushy. Oh how I longed to dip the clutch and rev it!!! That's why I wouldn't have one for a while.

I do miss it when the M4 is chocca though!

If traffic about 2k,  and normal driving about 3k.

Def something not right for an auto, no idea what tho. Id be getting it on a tech2 for a diagnostic.
When cracking on the car will rev to the limits of the rev range and i wonder if it just goes that little bit further the limiter will cut in. Maybe a setting is a fraction off(a guess) or something more serious maybe.Or a reluctance to change up in a particular gear. Dont know of a tech2 near York, maybe a trek to The Boy or Mr dtm would be in order?
