So basically itsnot changing gears till 6k+ on the rev counter???

Just a thought but is the sports mode button sticking...known possible fault...if you put sports mode on...what kind of revs does the car change at??
If traffic about 2k,  and normal driving about 3k.
Def something not right for an auto, no idea what tho. Id be getting it on a tech2 for a diagnostic.
When cracking on the car will rev to the limits of the rev range and i wonder if it just goes that little bit further the limiter will cut in. Maybe a setting is a fraction off(a guess) or something more serious maybe.Or a reluctance to change up in a particular gear. Dont know of a tech2 near York, maybe a trek to The Boy or Mr dtm would be in order?

Its not every time, its only every now and then...

When should auto change gear if your foot it flat to the floor including pressing the kick down switch? Normally it changed just before the limiter.

Hard to say about gear changes, but on the way to work just now, I was following an old granny, and it changed from 1st-2nd at about 2.4k, then again into 3rd at about 2.3k.

Is a video needed?  ::)

Even in sports mode the engine does not normally hit the rev limiter.

The rev limiter is an extra precaution to stop the engine doing its self damage by going into the red section of the rev counter.

The rev limiter is not be confused with the change point in normal or sport mode auto.

The rev limter on older cars was often known as valve bounce.   ;D ;D ;D ;D

What's your ATF fluid level like? A previous auto I had used to consume ATF  and as the level became too low I lost drive for a short time, particularly around corners. :-/

;D hate to be pedantic but the correct spelling is
BaaaaaAAAAAAAABABABABABA change up
BaaaaaAAAAAAAABABABABABA change up and so on
If anybody want to experience for themselves, leave it out of gear and just stand on the gas pedal.
This can also be experienced at any cruise or meeting of young people with cars... Not really a good idea, but should not do any real harm.

Sounds like the autobox could do with a fluid and filter change, then see if it's Ok after that. It's probably just a little slow to respond to the ECU request to change up.

If you're not going to get around to it for a while, top up the fluid level (up to the level plug when hot, on the level and with the engine running).

i have to say it sounds more like the BABABA sound rather than RAH RAH RAH! lol...
it should change with your foot flat down/kickdown pressed just on the edge of the red line asin take it just so it touches... unless your spinning a wheel and then it'll hit rev limiter!

Hmm just thinking now, I fitted a chip and lost the cat's a few months back, which I think has helped free it up a very little bit (top end), maybe the gearbox cant always keep up because of this?  :-X

Could this have also been caused by the lead foot on the throttle pedal, as surely if you floor it you end up sitting in the kick down part of the throttle and thus hitting the rev limiter before changing gear,,

not too sure you need to floor it anyway pretty fast off the line without the need to floor it surely its a 3.0lt is it much different to the 3.2lt ???
