Help Please...
« on: 30 October 2008, 15:22:12 »

HI all, im looking for some help on a problem i have, ive just had my heads on my 2.5 v6 1999 omega done, the mechanic took the p*ss and had the car for 10... yes 10 weeks!!! i received the car back, and within 1000 miles its gone again.. now the mechanic has told me that its a problem with the fan belt tenshioners or bearing that has caused it to go again, and im at a loss, it seems to me like he is shifting the blame so i have to pay again!!! his explanation was that when the fan belt gave in, it stopped the water pump from working leaving my engine to over heat. now did he have to remove and refit the fan belt whilst doing the job originally?? and does it effect the water pump to the degree that my car would blow the heads again??? all help and advise appreciated. all the best, gav.

something not right there it water pump failed due to fan belt failing you would have lost alternator, air con and all other ancillary parts. take it somewhere else for a second opinion.  hopefully someone else may have other ideas

What was the original reason for the heads being replaced? The Auxiliary belt which drives the water pump and the Auxiliary belt tensioner would have been removed to take the heads off.

was not being irritating :-[ just think you need to have someone else have a look who knows what they are talking about.  seems to me mechanic/s have not got a clue.  i can feel for you being without car for 10 weeks which by any standards is way too long. which begs the question, mechanic thick as sh*t and just fobbing you have.  Don't let them bullsh*t you get them to sort a problem which has been diagnosed incorrectly. hth

Could be wrong , but doesn't the cambelt drive the water pump on a V6 ?
If that's the case and it had failed you wouldn't have much engine left.

Sorry , just checked , I'm talking a load of bo**ocks !!

This sounds like rubbish. When my tensioner went I knew about it immediately - power steering went, battery light came on, temp gauge shot right up. Anyone would have to be an idiot to drive far enough in that state to blow the hg.

I'd do as advised - get an opinion from a proper garage/mechanic, and look to sue this guy because all his work was probably wrong or done incompetently. Also, just to shit him up in the mean time, ask him if he has insurance.
