Air/Con continued ......
« on: 05 November 2008, 14:10:46 »

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1225221951/all

Right then. I've had the new compressor fitted but ............ there's a huge leak on the high pressure filling point  :'(. I've now got a lurid green PAG oil coloured engine bay. It's on the lines of a tyre/schrader valve but with a ball sealing against an 'O' ring. To me, and looking at the EPC at the dealers, it looks like the valve should unscrew, however .....  :( the air cond fitter says not. :-/ Who's had any experience of the fittings?
A trip to the scrappies proved fruitless. :'(  ;)  ;)

We're/he's not getting as far as that, when he takes his filling connections from his gas kit, the 'O' ring in the valve isn't sealing.

A/C guy should be able to replace the valve core for you, they are just like oversize tyre valves. The valve body cannot be changed though, its part of the pipe assy.

When it was leaking I suggested he changed the valve. It's part of the pipe he said, the pipe work it's in is £128+vat. I cannot accept that's right - it'd belike having to change a rim cos the valve is fubar'd
This is the EPC picture of the parts. Mine is the whole assembly 'CE' and the high pressure fill valve is item 5 withthe seal 6 from assembly 'AD'

That's what I would've hoped. I've only been back in from work since 11-ish & haven't looked under the bonnet armed with spanners. Looking at the above picture I'm sure the fill valve must unscrew ..... hopefully.
Of the 4 cars I looked at in various scrappies today, they either had never had A/C, was differenter to mine or had been butchered getting access to other bits.  :'(

Hi,
For info.
I had my A/C system serviced and refilled May this year. They replaced both HP and the LP Schrader valve inserts as part of service.

If I remember right, the inserts were different sizes for HP an LP
Fitter mentioned that everyone has tool to fit LP, but not many have the tool to do the HP and even then its not always possible as "often nibs are broken by people using wrong tool"

It's a good job we don't take at face value what all these experts tell us. I've just been and had a go at undoing the HP service point - the bit that's supposed to be part & parcel of a £130 part - I didn't have to try very hard to unscrew the bloody thing. Looking at the LOW pressure fill/service point, that IS part of the pipe!
Bloody Experts!!!!  >:(
New valve ordered from Vauxhall at the grand cost of £3odd plus a seal of some description - can't tell from EPC what type it is.
