Omega 2.5 V6 Manifold
« on: 12 November 2008, 10:55:20 »

Hi,

I have my MOT on friday and i have a leak from the manifold gasket. Would this make the car fail? A friend told me it would be ok as its not part of something they test.

Many thanks

James

How much do you think it would cost at a garage?

Just got back from the garage. He quoted me £125 quid for labour. Which is great. My only concern is the studs. For the manifold to be blowing, would it be that one (or many, i hope not) have snapped already or do the gaskets wear out over time?. The car has done 120K but im not sure if it has been replaced before.

Many thanks.

you could be lucky and its just one ! make sure he uses genuine gaskets only or you will need it done again in 6 weeks  :P

Is that what causes them to blow? A broken stud?

Surely the sensible thing to do would to be to take it to the garage and for him to do a quick emissions test...........

And its rare to find a broken stud on the V6......its normaly the naff composite gasket failing (the replacement ones are steel plate and much better quality hence why non gen are crap)

Just for your info, VX class this as an 'engine out' job and quote 5 hours labour if nothing goes wrong. I think they change about £80 per hour.

Robbing Ba**tards. I'd much prefer to go to an independant mehcanic on issues like these. I think £80 an hour is crazy. Obviously if its too technical i'd prepare my wallet for the worse and go to VX. It's just a shame the v6 is hard to work on. Love the cars though!
