If you're talking about the rear view mirror inside the car then you're probably looking at the sensor for the self-dimming. When someone is behind you at night with their lights on you'll notice that their lights look dimmer than they actually are with a greenish tinge. The recess on the other side of the mirror facing forward is to sense when it is dark outside so it knows when to react, or not as the case may be.

Hi - my car has this light as well - it is located on the underside of the rear view mirror and it just throws a very dim ambient light onto the center console - think it was only put on cars from 2002.  It is hidden away in a dip and I think it's quite a nice feature.

Not a warning light though  :y

I was in a 2002 veccy sri, and that had the light you mention aswell, we just thought it was for lighting the centre console at night, altho not exactly needed.
