Exhaust system (2.2 petrol)
« on: 13 November 2008, 17:43:19 »

The exhaust on my 2.2 petrol estate needs replacing soon from the cat back as my baked bean tin and jubilee clip bodges are at the end of their life.

I would like to replace it myself using an original system if possible but there was a discussion some time ago about the quality of the exhausts supplied by Vauxhall now saying that they are not the original clamshell type any more.

The original system has managed just over 4 years and 93,000 miles.

I cannot find this thread again so please excuse me asking the question again if it is worth buying a Vauxhall system on Trade Card or a cheapo ebay one for less than half the price?

Also would it be possible to fit the cheaper 2.0 single centre box to the car as I cannot see the reason for complicating the system with the weird siamesed 2 middle box idea - or am I missing something with gas flow etc.?

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Someone with more knowledge will reply soon, but i'm sure you can't use the 2ltr exhaust.

I know you said you wish to fit yourself but i don't know how proficient you are and it might be better to try omegamechanic.co.uk?

the 2.0l doesn't fit.  Many, many, many fast fit places have tried, and failed badly ;D

The 2.2 is available as pattern, but generally pattern ones are abysmal, and last 2yrs if you're lucky (often just long enough for the warranty to run out, but not always).

The genuine one does appear to have changed, and is slightly louder than the previous ones, but still the best option imho. Around £210 + VAT for both middle and back section at Jan 08 prices.

Thanks for the replies, I havent tried a 2 litre exhaust and from I read it would not work so I will probably get a 2.2 Vauxhall one on Trade Card.

I would really like to get a stainless system but there is nothing available anywhere near Bognor and a quote from Powerflow in Southampton was £600 plus they really did not sound interested in the job and I am certainly not interested in paying that amount of money unless anyone here knows of a better, cheaper outfit in this area.

I fitted a Vauxhall system to my old 2 litre estate years ago and it was easy once I shifted the 2 bolts from the cat flange.

I might struggle a bit with the weight of the bulky 2.2 system as I am the original 7 stone weakling unfortunately more Charles Hawtry than Charles Atlas!
