urgent. Rain sensor v solar glass, can tech 2 adj?
« on: 17 November 2008, 15:01:38 »

just arrived at auto glass for a heat reflective wind screen to replace the original standard one with rain sensor, they dont know if the heat reflective screen will affect the rain sensor ie stop it working, or if the rain sensor can be adjusted to work with the heat reflective screen later? Does anyone know? Does tech 2 allow for rain sensor adjustment? Help, will loose the appointment in 20 mins. Tia.

no idea.  don't windscreens for cars with rain sensors have special cutouts?

Should be a gap in the shaded area at the top for the rain sensor. The black shaded area is also not reflective for items like dart tags :y :y

Yeah the new screen has the rain sensor but out. Cant see that its a problem myself, just wack the bugger in there. If it needs adjusting then it would have that option on tech 2 surely? Dont know what they are worried about tbh...

Edit, just in case, "but out" above should read "cut out" oops. :-)

panic overs, they cant fit it anyway due to the scratches.

They cant tell if the solar coating goes through the rain sensor window area! A visible line runs just under the sun strip but its not visible round the printed rain sensor window area! The assumption being the sensor window could have solar controle coating through it. If the rain sensor is not adjustable(via tech 2?) to account for this then the rain sensor may not work. I cant see why the sensor window would have the coating in it myself but we now have a week to find out until the next available appointment. Pants!
Thanks for prompt replies though. Allways appreciated. Ta.

it may seem a daft idea but perhaps they could contact the screen manufacturer?  must have some tech support somewhere.

Sounds perfectly sensible to me i have to say. But not to them it would seem, as its the first thing i asked iirc. Answer no. Ive spoken to vx slough and Reading. Dont know why i did, and true enough, neither knew the answer, and both gave me the number for customer care who did not know either, and said ring the dealer...! FFS!

Ive just got off the phone to autoglass head office who asked everyone and eventually rang the Reading branch and told me what i already know, or dont know to be more precise. But they have now said that one of the 2 screens the reading branch have ordered will work no problem. To be fair, the Reading branch have ordered 2 screens both solar, one with green tint as well! Ive had enough, tbh and im fairly sure its a fuss about nothing, as it seems logical to me that the solar area would not cover the sensor window anyway. Manager said they have had this issue with other german makers! It was his input that raised the concern at the start. The technician sorted the mess out to be fair, just hope dont make a mess of my car.

Managers...who needs em...:-)
