coolant circulation
« on: 23 November 2008, 16:17:51 »

if the heaters are on a lot with the temperature up high (due to the time of year) does coolant get circulated around the system more? i seem to have read conflicting reports about whether putting the fans on and the temp up high promotes circulation or not.

From my personal experience i would say the coolant circulation on the omega is poor at the best of times and turning up the temp inside the cabin doesn't seem to make much difference.

so if you were checking for leaks, running the heater up high and on full wouldnt push coolant around the matrix and around the system thus helping you identify a leak by the increased chance of coolant being pushed around the whole system?

It wouldn't make it flow any more but it would make the coolant flow around the complete system :y :y

If you are checking for leaks in the heater matrix, you are right.

If not, the system rises to the same pressure either way so no advantage is gained.

If you have flushed the coolant system out, running the heater will help get rid of any air.

For simple day to day running, I can't see any advantage would be gained over running the heater in the normal way.
