ok first

i posted before about it going in for the cambelt/rocker cover gaskets and breather system clean and it has come back with it running a bit sluggish

i found today after finally getting out to have a look at her that the MAF is disconnected and it runs worse with it back connected.
should i recconnect and re-do a paperclip test to see if 71/73 codes are still there? also the arrow on the MAF points towards the bonnet - is this right? I'm getting a new maf to try and see if this stops the problem - it did go to the garage originally with the EML on but i didnt get chance to test the codes

also the led's on the heated seat buttons stopped working a while ago but i'm not sure if the seats have stopped heating - is this a relay?

Firstly the MAF is the wrong way around!

Secondly, read the codes and you must give the garage a chance to put things right. If they've returned it to you with the MAF unplugged then they are trying to hide something IMO >:( >:(

Was it OK before it went in?
If so, go back.

It could be that they've induced an airleak somewhere.

I'd be interested to know if they used a timing kit, and if not, how far out the cambelt timing is  :-/

It means airflow....and the air will flow from the air filter, around the 90 deg bend and down towrads the inlet trunking.....hence the arrow in thsi case points down (as per the direction of airflow)

as soon as i saw that the alarm bells started ringing

well that solves that one - running smooth again now and i have my power back!!

any ideas re the heated seats?

oh i still have the codes

They could just be trying to hide the fact that they are a useless bunch of numpties and put the MAF sensor back on the wrong way around but dont know what they have done wrong!  :y

well im getting sick of the monkeys working on my cars and not the boss. i had a head gasket put on the wrong way round by an apprentice at burton power when i had an engine built by them  >:(

can i clear the codes myself? sirgaryffc said to disconnect the battery for 30 mins to clear the 'dead' codes?

If the codes are old rather than due to current faults then approx. 30 starts of the engine should clear them automatically. :y
Edit. - re. heated seats,if they are working you should easily feel the heat coming through the seats.If they arent working I would check the fuse first before delving any deeper.

As already discussed matt, try the fuse in the fuse box first then check for power at the relays, i think that they are under the seats, not too sure on that one though,  you would be advised to get along to the next local cambelt meet and get the timing checked to give you piece of mind although i doubt that there will be one this year now. Is there a tech 2 holder in the north yorks/yorkshire area that came clear the codes for you.Is it poss to clear the codes by disconnecting the battery for a period of time, if i am wrong someone will confirm or not. Then a trip to the garage to tell them what you found with the maf. MONKEYS. I hope your troubles are at an end now, although i fear they may not be. Lets hope i am wrong. :-/

well i hope so too - the fuses are both fine but i need a diagram really to see where and what relay controls the front heated seats as both stopped working ( even the led on the switch)
