Hi everyone!!! I have an  omega 2.5 v6 auto 1999/T. On starting up today i heard a wurring,grinding noise from engine,opened bonnet,seems to be coming from alternator area.
Anyone had same problem?
How do i take of alternator?
Any suggestions from you professionals !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!HELP!!!!!!!

IMHO it could be alternator bearing or aux belt tensioner pulley ..  I've done the latter .. cheap and easy fix .. but I'll let an expert guide you ..

the tensioner pulley bearing is known to make a nasty noise. Either re grease the bearing or  get the pulley  itself without the tensioner from vx. You could back the tensioner arm off with a 15 mill spanner(clockwise) wip the belt off and spin the suspected item by hand checking for play and smoothness. With the belt off you could undo the 15 mill nut and grease the bearing, however mine is sealed! Most likely tensioner pulley which is above the alternator...hope so anyway. Alternator is a pain to change.

Black plastic pulley on top left is the tensioner, use a longish 15mm ring spanner on the central nut and apply pressure clockwise to release the belt tension then slip the belt off the water pump pulley.
You can now check for play or roughness in the alternator and tensioner bearings.

The alternator bearings do get noisy with age and can be replaced if you have the tools and skills.
The tensioners can seize up and destroy the aux belt, the bits of aux belt have been known to flail around and get into the cambelt cover causing the timing to slip and bend valves etc so dont take a risk if there is any doubt about its condition. (you just change the plastic pulley bit. £25 ?? )

So is mine, as is every other tensioner bearing I would expect. You carefully flip the dust seal on one side out, shove a bit more grease in & then carefully press the dust seal back in again.

Agree tensioner pulley.  Once off carefully prise out bearing covers both sides, repack with grease and refit covers.  Refit to car.

To late if its grinding.....that only works when they are quiet but dry

I've got a similiar noise on mine, traced it to the air con pump. poss why it doesn't work.
