Hot and Lumpy.
« on: 01 December 2008, 22:11:08 »

Not talking about my wife, but my 2.5 v6 auto 1996.

Car seems ok on startup when cold, but when it starts to heat up it gets all lumpy on tickover and hates pulling the car under 2.5k revs (always seems to want to kick down)

I've changed the cam cover gaskets, and the drivers side bank of plugs, cleaned and wd40'd the ICV, checked the connections and cleaned the breathers (althought one of the smaller pipes is still kind of blocked - tried all sorts to clear it)

Any ideas?

No EML?
Does it seem to be misfiring when warm? Could be the dis pack or HT leads.

Sounds like HT related then.
Dis pack best checked by substitution.
Plug leads can be checked with a multimeter, should all be around 3k - 6k ohms, depending on length. A bad one will be much higher and may be open-circuit whe wiggled.

Update your profile with location etc. please.

HT Leads.

Just done mine....no more lumpy acceleration under load.

What I did find though is that the ht lead boot can stick to the ceramic insulator of the spark plug and stop the boot/cap clicking fully home onto the spark plug.

A small squirt of wd40 around the opening of the HT boot/cap before you push it home onto the plug and jobs and good 'un.
