V6 2.6 Parts and Maintenance advice needed
« on: 04 December 2008, 10:48:09 »

Hi Guys,

Here in South Africa parts for the Omega aren't that common, so I'm planning on shipping some parts out from the UK, at the moment my list is, but I would appreciate any advice as to what other common parts should be in an 'Omega's Owners' garage just in case :-)

I can get Pads, Air & Oil Filters etc here.

Timing belt kit
Water pump
Rocker cover gaskets
Bolt seal rings
Drive belt
Rear shoes
Pollen filter

Thanks

Brad

Welcome to the forum.

I would think the best approach would be to look at the service history of your car (if any) and then have a good look at the car.

If you have a look on the forum general help section and also in the maintenance guides then you will see the areas that give trouble on the Omega V6.

If money is no object you could for example include front wishbones, drop links, rear subframe bushes, oil cooler, DIS pack, crank and cam sensors.

However if money is an issue, then it might be best to come up with a to do list.

e.g. clean breathers, Opel oil change and filter. Cambelt and water pump (unless it was done at the last cambelt change).

Where I live Opel dealers are all quite some distance away and never have the parts you need available as V6 omegas aren't common here. I find that there are plenty of suppliers in the UK prepared to ship abroad. www.ebay.co.uk is a good source. Again if you look at the postings on the forum and in the maintenance guides you will see what items are recommended as only Opel dealer purchase (brake discs for e.g.) and what are acceptable as pattern parts.

With the current rate of exchange UK pound to other currencies it might just work out cheaper getting stuff from an Opel dealer somewhere on the African continent!

hope that helps

Thanks for all the useful help, those 'to do' items are already on my list.

Pricewise it's actually quite a bit cheaper shipping from the UK than buying what is available here, for example just the Timing Belt is over R600 ( about 40 UKP) and the tensioner (if there was one in the country) is around R3,000 ( 200 UKP ). !!!!

Luckily we ship stuff from the UK quite often so thats not a major problem.

Cheers

on the just in case list.
Ac condensor and dryer. (Ac pump  possibly?)
Springs all round, they break on the ends easy.
Shocks all round esp the rears if self levelers.
Aux belt tensioner pulley,(not the tensioner)
Door check strap bushes.(clicking doors)
Cat back exhaust(do you get rust in SA? Maybe not)
Wheel bearings. In the hub if you dont have a press.
Central locking motor(s?).

Bear in mine the breakers on here...
Hth.
