Removing Ashtray
« on: 07 December 2008, 19:43:47 »

I have read through the how 2 for the climate control so went out to  fit my new led's today. Stuck at the first hurdle, I cannot see a screw behind the ashtray. The Haynes manual shows 2 screws holding the wood surround that are located behind the ashtray holder but you have to remove this to get to them.

Are there more than one type of ashtray and if so how do I get the ashtray holder out? Mine is a 96 3.0 Elite auto.

if you lift out the inner grey trey in the ashtray drawer then in the middle at the top there's one screw, you take this out then the ashtray pulls out

if you open the ashtray then take out the tray inside then there's like a trough, behind that theres a piece of plastic with a circular hole in it, the screw is through that at the top

Okay, I will have another look tomorrow with a torch. I was looking for the screw today but couldn't see one. After removing the ashtray I could see a vee type cutout in the centre of the holder where I thought the screw would be but only black behind it. Looks like anothe case of not being able to focus in with my specs :(

Thanks for the quick response as well ;)

it's np,
the circle hole should be right at the top/half an inch from the top and then stick a screwdriver through that at a couple of degrees and chances are you'll hit it with the screwdriver (even if you cant see it) you have to get to a similar level to the gearstick/selector

May see if I can get it out at lunch time tomorrow, then again may be best waiting until next weekend cos you can gaurantee I will have some if not all the led's the wrong way round :(

Bu the way, I told you some duff info when I was on about the standard Vec 2.5 camms, they are E and F like you said, not A's like I said. I blame my dementia, well that and a very bad memory ;)
