Crank sensor again?
« on: 05 December 2008, 22:17:16 »

Had a bit of trouble starting the car on two occasions this week. The engine started but then died a few seconds later, with the EML light flashing. Pretty sure that the crank is sensor giving up (as on my old 1995 Miggy). I am surprised this time round, though, as my facelift has only done 24k miles.  :(

Two questions:
1) On the 2.5, you couldn't reroute the cable in the original factory fitted way. Does that apply to the 2.6 as well? Also is the connector block fitting at the top end the same as on the 2.5?

2) Any idea of Vx price? (Only option as tomorrow is Saturday, so can't get a cheaper Ebay item in time and need the car early next week).

If the EML flashes during starting I'm pretty sure its an immobilisor problem, for all other faults the EML is on steady and the codes need reading ...

have  you tried the pedal trick for the 2.6 ?

Actually, if I remember correctly the EML light only flashed when the engine died (so it initially went out when the engine fired up under the normal self-diagnosis routine).

Just remembered that a week or so back, I drove the kids to the swimming pool and SWMBO then took the Miggy for an onward journey to the supermarket. When she came to pick us up she said that the TC light had been on all the way to the supermarket, but vanished when she returned after shopping.

Red herring? (and, no, she didn't buy one, before you lot start!  ;) ;D) or a clue to my current problems.   :-?

Just checked the pedal test output:

The flashes I'm getting are:

1, 6
1, 3
1, 6
1, 2

End.

Can't seem to relate this to the linked table of fault codes. :(

While awaiting some help, I've been thinking.  ::)

My key fob has been getting a bit iffy lately and I think it may need a new battery. Could it be that, recently, the dying battery has meant that the transponder chip is not being read by the barrel and has made the immobliser kick in (cutting the fuel flow) as it thinks the car's being nicked?

Or is that theory complete rubbish?  :-[

2.6 will have 4 digit P codes, so 1613 and 1612?

Which would match the flashing EML symptom.
