Alarm keeps sounding following flat battery
« on: 09 December 2008, 16:23:42 »

I had SORNed my MV6 2.6 on a friend's drive, having bought another car.
I thought it was about time to sell the beast so i went over to get her started. When i zapped the key fob the alarm sounded.
Thinking it was a flat battery, i recharged. Now, however, every time i zap the key fob the alarm sounds!!!!

Can anyone tell me what's happened and what i should do to correct it? I'd like to sell the car but might struggle like this. Other than this she is in very good nick.
Thanks in antipation of your help.

When you lock the car does the alarm led flash rapidly, instead of staying solid for c. 10 seconds? If it does, your alarm has error codes that need reading via dealer tech 2 or cheaper alternatives.

Agreed, the acid in my battery had escaped and melted the circuit board creating all sorts of short circuits! So it may be a good idea to have a poke about and see what's going on with the sounder

yes the sounder used to give 4 beeps when i switched the engine off (not always). perhaps that is a low battery indicator. There is a thread on here somewhere for replacing the batteries. Does anyone have a link?

Mine is starting to do this.  a couple of times starting up the alarm goes off.  Stopping and starting again has overcome it.

What is the proceedure to disable it?  Is there a fuse/connector to pull such that it will eventually go dead or does it need removing from the car?

Cheers,
Ian

My procedure, which may be a little unorthodox, was to punch a hole in the plastic scuttle and to rip out the wiring from the power sounder. I was in a car park at the time so I got a few funny looks, and it does mean you need to get a new scuttle, or be good with bathroom sealant :y

Presumably the power sounder then goes off until it runs flat?

If the battery is next to dead its not much of an alarm anyway.

Mine died straight away as the batteries had less power in them than Thora Hird
