Have I broken something?
« on: 15 December 2008, 11:46:16 »

Had a spare couple of hours, so I thought I'd replace the faulty lock actuator on the driver's door. I've done the passenger one before and to get the card off, I remeber removing the window control pad. On the passenger side it just popped out. The driver's side is proving really difficult. The problem I have (apart from not getting it out) is that my controls have now all gone and the window buttons have gone floppy. Have I bu**ered it up?  :(

If the buttons have gone funny, yes  :'(

I always struggle to get that switch panel out - too scared to use anything on it, as the finish is appalling anyway, so I always loosen the door card, reach up and unplug the window pack, and leave it in card.  If pack needs removal, then can easily push from behind card.

You have to take the door card off and push the switch unit through from the otherside then un-plug.

I'm going to have to overhaul my locking system in the New Year,  so whilst on this topic how easy is it to remove the door cards TB?   Are they held in place by the standard motor industry plastic "poppers" which just pull out or is it something else on a miggy? :-? :-?

For facelifts, see Tunnie's locking motor replacement guide in Maintenence Guides, including the hidden screw.

For prefacelifts, Haynes covers it adequately

Success, of sorts.  :y

I pulled hard and eventually the panel came out. Essentially, the two parts of the panel had come apart and inside the rubberised touch moulding was no longer in contact with the PCB. Put it all back together and everything works. Actually, I think the problem lies in an earlier "repair" by a previous pair of hands, as one of the clips which holds the panel in place on the card was bent inwards by miles, with the result that as I eased the panel out the clip forced it apart.

So, I ran out of time to get the replacement actuator on, but at least I'm no worse off than I was this morning...except colder!
