Drivers side exhaust manifold
« on: 14 December 2008, 12:02:41 »

Right guys, I have finally plucked up the courage to have a go at my blowing exhaust manifold that has finally done my head in.

I cant find a how 2 anywhere so any guidance/tips would be brilliant.  :y
Gonna have a pop at it next sunday. Luckily my friend owns a truck rental business so will be using his lovely warm workshop.

Least if it takes longer I can go home in a truck  ;D

hi guys i have not tried this yet ?

anyway i have been talking to a man who works for vauxhall and he said that the snapped studs are very common .

he advised me to try get a nut on the side of the head where the stud was and weld thebhole in the nut full so it bonds with the broken stud then turn the nut and it should start to un do , might need a few attempts
he told me this after i had taken the head of mine to drill them out
hope this helps in any way  :y

like i say i have not tryed this yet !!!!

The weld a nut thing was a regular fixit for me years ago when in the Merchant Navy, particularly where studs had corroded.  The welding action and subsequent cooling normally assisted in breaking the threads and allowing the broken stud to be removed.

atleast it's the drivers side (looks easier to get at-after having a go at doing the passenger side and taking the whole ac compressor and pas pump off!)

Do I need to disturb the cam cover gaskets or do I not need to go that far down??
