Unlikely to be the head gasket, IMO. If it is indeed smoke and not steam (you will get lots of the latter in this weather) it would point more towards piston rings or valve stem seals, particularly the latter if it's smoky at startup.

Is it burning any oil?

Are there any signs of coolant leaks in the ususal places? (HBV and in the valley).

Is the coolant clean? Any signs of the reservoir cap venting steam? Is it running at normal temperature?

could be steam, after a 20 min drive to work, in the carpark mine was still pumping out steam.

Then again it was about -2!

doesnt seem to be any leaks, i put a litre of oil in about 5 weeks ago and no light come on at all, will check the coolant tank see if its oily too, temp is around 92.5 constant,
heater is blowing absolutely beautiful when its warm now. but my heated drivers seat has stopped working though for some reason

white smoke/steam or blue grey oil smoke.
Whats the oil like? Any mayo/emulsified appearance?  Pull a plug or 3 and check for water in the bore. Check where the water is leaking from(hbv, in the v of the engine and running down the back  of the bell housing, coolent transfer pipe above bell housing above or core plugs to head.) if its leaking in the bore and the smoke is steam then thats bad news. Wish you luck.
