My CDX estate runs 225/R16 tyres. I'm only getting 6-8k out of the fronts. With 225s that's an expense I can do without.

What should i expect from a pair of front tyres? People tell me Omegas are well known for eating tyres, but 6k?

Have had all the usual checks at kwik-fit.

Any bright ideas?

That really doesn't sound a great deal of miles but I suppose it depends if you drive like a demon, soft compound tyres or something is set incorrectly.
The tyre wear you are talking about is it just the front tyres? inside edge worn away? outside edge worn away?

bright idea 1: dont have the usual checks done at a fast fit place

bright idea 2: take it to Wheels in motion or one of their recommended places.  WIM contribute here and know what they are doing.  

bright idea 3: check your front wishbones, bushes are probably worn knocking outthe camber so you may need to replace those before you get the geometry reset

you should be able to get 40k from a set of tyres: I got that from my last set

Ok.... looks like bush replacement and a trip for alignment.

should be getting double that amount of miles bud ! fit new bottom arms and full wim jobbie !!

Myself and m1ct have had this problem too, it took one front tyre out within 3k so change all lower arms anti links etc and still started taking a new tyre out on inside edge, so removed wheel again and found some small adjustment from the hub that bolts to shock absorber (two 18mm bolts) now if you undo them and pull hub up-right so the tyre will stand up straight then do them up tight in this position. Having done this to m1ct's omega the tyres wear evenly! You can notice this wheel leaning by looking from the each side of your omega- front wheel compared to the back one standing up.

Excessive camber is the culprit....even worn bushes wont eat tyres that fast as they have a greater effect on the toe.

As for Omegas eating tyres.....thats the sort of statement I would expect to hear from a tyre fitter who has not got a clue about vehicle geometry!

Yep, sounds like bushings in lower arms... mine where gone causing the camber to be out which in turn chewed my tyres up on the inside edge. Also changed the steering idler. Car is now brill...

Also go to WIM for alignment etc or if it is too far from you find someone who knows what they are talking about, avoid quick fit etc, waste of money...
