Got a couple of problems.
« on: 01 January 2009, 21:15:34 »

I think the heater matrix has given up the ghost, Driving along one evening on an unlit B road get a hissing sound & a pop and the car fills with steam, that was nearly the end. But thank goodness both the Elite and I are still here. Not much fun having no heating or de-misting ability in -5 wether conditions at 6 am. Think I have found a new matrix on http://www.carcooling.co.uk all inclusive price with delivery is £55.85, Can anyone tell me if thats about right? Next question well more of an assumption - taking the dash out and fitting the new matrix?????
Scale of 1 - 10 (1 being changing a tyre and 10 complete engine rebuild) How difficult is it to change?
Next problem, Think I have a couple of dodgy tappits, very tappy sounds suspect?
Drivers heated seat not working either?
Any help would be very greatfull. Si

Heater Matrix about 12 hour job...apparently you can cut out part of the underside of the dash or summat to knock off a few hours (better access...probably a 7-8

Tappety noise will be a blowing exhaust manifold gasket...or might be one of the studs holding the exhaust manifold has snapped...

Heated seat, pads worn/burned out...easiest is to replace seat...

I gather there's the "book" way (remove dash) or a "sneaky" way involving cutting a bit of non-visible dashboard out in order to remove the matrix without the 10 hour dash removal..

wasn't expecting help that quick. lol. I'm guessing not to be undertaken by the faint hearted then. Any more details or info on doing the actual job. Anything need to be cautious of when removing dash, air bags e.t.c. Any tips?
Different subject, LPG conversion?  How much would you expect to pay and is it worth it?

Does the tappety sound dissapear when the engine has warmed, if so then as said above its more than likely to be the exhaust manifold gasket, if not and it is the cam followers, try doing a couple of short oil changes. The driver heated seat not working is common and is normally the element and changing it is more trouble than its worth.

Try a couple of short oil changes, get yourself a vauxhall trade card from Autobahn Stormers which will cost you £20 or if there's someone local to you with one and get down to your local Vauxhall dealers where 4, 5 litres of oil is only about £33 ;)

By short do you mean 1000 miles between changes or 5000? Is it worth changing oil filter whielst draining?

5000 is the MAXIMUM recomended interval by the Forum .... forget the Vx crap !! so a couple of changes at 1000 is a good idea. The filters are so cheap its not worth the risk of not changing them.

A Trade Club card will cost £20 from ABS

http://www.autobahnstormers.org

and will save you a fortune .. makes an oil change less than £10 a time
