Hiya all,
   My Omega just wouldnt start yesterday am. I get all the usual lights up. But when I turn the key, it cranks but wont fire. When i release the key the rev counter goes upto 5000 revs. And I get a noise from a relay under the bonnet that sonds like its just switching really fast. If i turn off and then on again, the rev counter goes to about 1000 rpm and sits there. Car wont start either way.??
    Any suggestions from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

I'd suggest you do a paper clip test and then post the results up here, sounds like it could be a crank sensor fault to me .

Indeed it does sond like a crank sensor.

Also the injector making noise sounds like the one for the injectors and if thats knackered the car wont start.

But do a paperclip test first.

Hiya guys and thanks for the quick responses,
   Firstly im not showing any fault codes from the paper clip test, i get a regular flash about every second and thats it, tried it for a minute, several times.
   Secondly, the clacking noise is coming from a purple relay under the bonnet, I think this is the fuel injection relay.
   Am that fed up that im going to try and get a crank sensor tomorrow, Any info on changing one over?? that would be dead handy.

A regular flashing sounds like your immobiliser is playing up.

I had the same problem with my 2.0 early last year. I found that she would turn over but not fire and there was a clicking noise from under the bonnett. I first though that it was a faulty relay but it turned out that the aftermarket Toad Imobiliser was faulty causing the fault.

I had the imobiliser disabled by a local electrician and it never failed again.

   If it was the immobiliser would I still be able to turn the ignition on and turn it over??  not sure. It did give me a little dip the day before it stopped. I was on the motorway and for just a split second it seemed to die but then came back straight away. Im thinking its something electrical but not sure what.??

On thinking about it I did manage to get the car to start after a while on one or two occasions by just keeping the ignition switch turning over until it stops doing it on its own and after about 2-3 attempts it would fire. On some occasions it would start up and run and on others it would start then cut out straight away.

Give it a try just to see

    I will give it a try in the am. Do you think it may flatten my battery tho??

If the battery is in good condition it should be fine, I was turning mine over for well over 15 mins on one occasion as it did it on the filling station car park while at the pumps. Was bloody busy just to top it off, they are the sort of days you really could do with tinted windows
