Firstly, Happy new year to all,

secondly, now the near year is here, so is the MOT on my mig, i've had it a couple of months, and so far it has given no real problems, but is there anything that they're notorious for on the MOT?

anything I should look out for?

Rear springs. Indicator bulbs not being orange enough. Rear handbrake (I've fallen foul of that one a few times myself!).

Ah yes...I actually use mine occasionally now, just to make sure it doesn't sieze up (although mine had no linings on the one set of shoes at all..as if they'd broken off, but no remenants..??).  Didn't have the time to do mine - cost me £120..

Yes, Took mine for its MOT this morning (It Passed) Yipee. I was a bit concerned about wishbones to. He advised me that one of the bushes in the off side wishbones was perished but there was no excessive play in it so he gave it a pass (Guess that's something i've got to get done this year) Last year it failed on the rear indicator bulbs (not orange enough) easy fix

mine fails on the not orange enough bulbs every year

mine failed in september on rear suspension donut bushes. I vowed to test again in june, with 4 months still to run until the due date, as i am sick t of hurried panicked repairs to get the car retested so i can get to work, in the dark and freezing cold rain on winter evenings. At least the daylight will be better. Maybe. :-)

its a good plan but why dont you have it done a month before cos if it passes it then valid. not wasting any pannies then.

mine is due in march and i have an ABS fault to diagnos and repair. huh.

mine always has to have its headlights adjusted every year without fail.

I always understood that if you put a vehicle in early for an MOT and it failed then the car should not be used until it passes a retest. I know you can get round this by not admiting to the early test but can you still do this now they are computerised? Or have I been under a missaprehension(sp) all these years?

We discussed this at length a few months ago.    My view having read the back of the MOT documentation and the DOT website is that unless they declare the car unroadworthy at the second test, the original MOT is still valid.

It's always cropping up. The whole point of being aloowed to take your test up to a month early is to give you time to fix owt should it fail ....
