I have been losing coolant and had convinced myself the head gasket had gone. I had no visible coolant leak under the car as far as I could tell, the car was misfiring a bit whilst warming up and  I could smell fumes in my coolant tank.
I have had the car looked at by the garage who have told me that it is the water pump leaking, and the rocker gasket had gone letting oil into the spark plugs hence the misfire. Whilst this is good news in one respect, does this tie in with the symptoms above
