'Key' Question
« on: 16 January 2009, 11:11:49 »

Thought i would try my spare key today as i never have since owning the car. Anyway none of the buttons work which i know you can get fixed. Opened the door with key OK and car starts with spare key but the alarm will not turn off...

Is the fob knackered or is it a case of re-programing it??? Don't even want to think what one will cost from the main stealers...either way needs sorting or sods law will prevale and i will loose my operational key...

Help and advice appreciated as allways.

I have to say, I'm no expert, but on a 'W' I assume you've got a facelift Omega with the three buttons on the remote?

My guess'd be replace the battery...

Try the resync procedure as stated in the glovebox manual.  Also make sure the battery in the fob is fine.  Failing that, it may need programming properly

first change the battery in the key, then put the operational key in the ignition and turn it on (dont start the car) now lock the doors from the inside, then with the spare key use the unlock button. the doors should unlock to confirm that the key is reprogrammed.

there is 2 conditions for this to work

1) you have to do the above procedure within 10 seconds of the ignition being switched on,

2) it must be the keyfob that came with the car or had previously been programed by tech 2 to match the central locking unit.

Allowed sychronisation time is 30secs. The lock or unlock button of the key that is IN the ignition must be pressed. :y

I have had a load in that don't - got the little red window and the solder points but no LED - pennypinching to the extreme :(

Mine was the same before Martin's repair, I had to stand next to the car to unlock it and use the key in the door lock to lock it :o

I renewed the battery as well but it didn't make any difference.

Now I can unlock/lock it while walking towards or away from the car.

Get Martin to renew the buttons :y
