In Most cars I can change gear and out perform any auto box.  I just dont get the Traction control anyway in a rear wheel drive car its better with it turned off, I nly found it a problem in the Vectra where the front wheels went light leaving you with no steering the Omega is not too good at holding the road due to its heavy body and running gear but it is so much more well behaved with TC off. mind you I am used to wheel spin in the Rover vittese. which is much cheaper to run and much faster. and has better handling

Considering its size and weight I think the omega handles reasonably well,its quite predictable which is always a good thing imo.
All other things being equal,a manual transmission car will outperform an auto car,imo.

What are you talking about? I had a Rover Vittese, it was way slower than a V6 Omega, and a lot worse on petrol, only good thing about a Rover is they are easy to work on, which is just as well as they need plenty of work

My miggy is the first auto car I've owned and love it. I'm a bus driver so drive auto's everyday, then when I jumped in my manual car the engine would be screaming like it's in pain, then I'd remember I haven't changed gear lol.

A few times now I've noticed myself pull up to junctions and push my left down and try and change gear, then realizing there's no clutch!

I reacon I could get an Omega round the twisties faster than a fatory Vectra and a Vitesse......isnt that right Daz!

Having owned a Vectra SRi V6 i can compare it against the omega and the vectra is a bag of s**t they always break down and the handling is woeful on the vectra

The omega handles well it feels competent its quicker than the vectra and it is like sitting in a leather palace compared to the Vectra!

the Omegas Manual gearbox will allow for quick changing and i have raced an auto MV6 and my Mv6 was off from the mark quicker than his he couldnt keep up!

The omega will give a BMW E46 3 Series a bloody good run for its money however the 3 series loves the twisties better than the miggy!
Traction control isnt a good idea to turn that off in this weather especially! myn wheel spins into 3rd and when it does wheel spin the car slides so its best to keep it on!

The omega handles extreamly well for its size. I was driving thruogh Snowdonia in Wales last summer and I was in front of a E200. He was pushing it very hard in the corners just about keeping up while I was putting in no effort. And on the straights I just left him for dead

I agree with you all the car is a good drive its just me. I cant stand the traction control it cuts in so I turn it off most of the time. I have had a few little slides where I realy wouldnt expect it. and a few times its been me trying to get the power down on a bend and the back just slips out nicely. I just plan find it heavy. I much prefered the Vitesse for the 220 bhp and the much lighter rear end. have have driven loads of Vauxhalls trying to get the feel back of my old Cav 1.6 D reg that was so nice to drive. I have had the v6 vectra, 1.4 Cav H Reg, astras corsas and a fair few vectras and I havent enjoyed one apart from the D reg.

the book compares the vitesse Standard model not the 220 bhp but the older 193 bhp as 0-60 in 7.3 seconds the top speed is 143 MPH at around 29 MPG

The Omega 2.5i V6 CDX is 163 BHP 8.2 Seconds 0-60 142 MPH and 25 MPG

My Vitesse was 220 BHP 0-60 was around 6.9 seconds by my GPS I had it running at 140 then ran out of road, and if I drove it gentle I got 190 miles from 20 of fuel at around the 91 p per litre mark.  

Saying that the V6 Omega has been doing farly well. I put £20 in and it did 160 mile the first time, with my few floors to see how it drove. then I got 170 driving real nice, and then this time dirving aorund town and to chopwell and back HILLS it did 130 miles and the prices are back to around the 90p per litre mark.  so its doing quite well considering is 1/5 of a ton more or 200Kgs more.

It also has a really good turning circle for a big car. and has loads more torque like tons of it. I towed a rover 400 in the firsat week just a short distance on the a frame and it was a dream compared to the Vitesse.

 :-/ I am a little undecided as the comfort is much better seats are like a arm chair. and the screen clears so fast from frost, and the air con is much better, and the rear blinds real handy when the arse behind has his lights on full beam. and the kids live it. and the wife. I am just finding it hard to get used to the heavy steering and the cars tracion control. and the fact that i cant go round my local roundabout at 40 I have to slow to 25 or it loses it, and yes theres loads of tread in the tyres.

The Omega is the lightest ive owned by far! Ive had 2 x vecras and 2 x escorts.

I only ever drove an sd1 rover once and the steering was so light (and devoid of feel imo) it felt like the wheel wasnt actually connected to any thing,so in comparison I suppose the Omega could feel heavy. :-/

I have no complaints with the handling of the Omega. It's nice and neutral, slides can easily be caught and provoked thanks to that long wheel-base and wide track. It's a lot better balanced than an E34 - mostly due to BMW's insistance on fitting stupid suspension components and geomentary (they never ride properly). Only thing that I does disappoint on the Omega is the number of turns to lock - it could do with being sharper when pushing on.

Lol, you were doing well out of your Vitesse...

The standard Rover V8 power figures are always very heavily debated.

The original SD1 V8 was a crap 155Bhp on twin Su's

The original Vitesse had the L-Jet flapper type EFi which had a claimed 190bhp (many were MUCH less than this and all would be well down after about 50K miles due to cam wear, loose timing chains etc)

The twin plenum Vitesse (a homoligation exercise) had a claimed 210bhp....but evidence sudgests they were little better than the standard as none of the key restrictions in the design had been overcome (the inlet manifolds and heads being the key ones!). What it did offer was a better standard platform to port to buggery in order to get a better race engine.....but out the plant....you got basicaly bugger all!

Its just another one of those marketing myths!

I was going to say, I ended up following an SD1 Vitesse who seemed fairly enthusiastic on Saturday when I was out in the Westfield and it was wallowing around as if it was at sea.

In the end I dispatched him on a straight (not difficult) due to the amount of sh1te he was lobbing up at me from the verges.
