Display giving me a weird message and no temp.
« on: 24 January 2009, 10:48:14 »

Hi guys,

Great forum by the way, i'm a member of a few and this is a real active one with loads of help available. keep it up!

Anyway, Just got my car (2001 3.2 v6 executive) back from having some paint work, so been driving it for a km's now. As the title says, i'm getting no temp reading on the dispaly and a message saying something along the lines of Headlight feild/vision? I have no idea what it means but i'm sure you guys have seen it before, so any help appreciated.

Thanks

Outside temperature? The sensor sits in the middle of the front bumper underneath. You can find a picture on here somewhere if you search.

Field/vision is one of the left hand side level sensors front wishbone & rear radius arm. Can be as simple as the arm having come off or the sensor is goosed.  :y

Can you elaborate a little more on this? I've noticed the car pulling under breaking and acceleration, along with a little knock when turning the wheel at low speeds. I've put this down to front left wishbone bushes or droplinks which i've heard is common. Any checks you recommend I do for this?

thanks, Geo

There's a level switch for the HID leveling system as above.

As you suggest, if your car is pulling one way or the other under braking, it could very well be the bushes in the wishbones at the front.

Ok guys, i'm confused.

Is the Feild/vision message because of a HID levelling failure or suspension levelling failure or both or neither? done a search on HID's but only found out how hard it is to retro fit them!

I need to get under the car and check the suspension but i've had similar problems before with the pulling in other cars - leading to faulty bushes. As for the temp reading, come to think of it there is a cut wire hanging from under the front bumper, could be for the temp sensor... i'll check it out.

Thanks again for your help but clarification on the above would be helpful, especially with a couple of pics!  :y

Geo

If there's a suspension problem, something loose or worn, then it could potentially have popped the arm off the HID level sensor. Both are probably related, best check it out.

The message is appearing because there's a fault within the electrical leveling system associated with the HID's. It could be one of the sensors mentioned or one of the leveling motors in each headlight. Whether the suspension is fubar'd or not is a completely seperate issue.
