CDX Omega belt issue
« on: 24 January 2009, 16:36:02 »

Can anyone advise me as to how much labour time i could expect in replacing the drive belt and aux belt tensioner which  broke last night and is now awaiting repair inspection at my local garage

Also any ideas on replacment part costs?

Any help would be appreciated.

Belt around £18 - £20, tensioner I think about the same.

To change ½ hour.

(Based on V6)

Hi, not sure about 2.0, but v6 is an easy job to do yourself. Pulley is only available from Vauxhall tho, but is only around £20.
Main thing tho is why did it fail? Was it just the pulley or is there a problem with the tensioner itself (around £40 withiout pulley).
All you need to remove is a couple of secondary air pipe couplings and a hose P-clip and the aux belt comes straight off.
Do make sure you draw a plan of how the belt runs so you can route it correctly.
Any issues let me know.
It is also an idea to add to your profile what car and where you are.

Genuine auxiliary belt is about £30 (£21 on trade club). You can buy the tensioner pulley on its own which IIRC can be bought for about £15. Vauxhall will probably try and sell you the whole tensioner assembly ::) The whole lot should easily be done in less than an hours labour charge ;)

They probably bought the whole tensioner instead of just the pulley.

Yeah, the arm snapped so needed a whole kit. The new belt was £20. When I checked on e;bay the kit was £50 , the belt £15 plus p&p so didnt seem too extreme.
