Air not blowing through central vents
« on: 31 January 2009, 18:28:59 »

Hi all,
Nothing came up on this when I did a search just now, so wondering what's going on.

Using the A/C to heat the windscreen quite a bit at the moment. I generally close the centre two and both side vents (which helps speed up the windscreen clearing I find).
Yesterday noticed that with all vents open and just in regular heating mode (not any of the options) 'nowt coming through the middle vents.
Both side ones fine and the ones for the rear passengers also fine.

Been fine for the last 4 1/2 years only seems to have started now.

What do I need to check and is this common?

mine is the same on the centre vents as is Kevin Woods and sp32 s from what i gather, but this seems to be a trait of 3.2s with the latest software updates, or maybe its just the face lifts generally. Dont recall any pre face lift owners mentioning it when i posted this issue late last year. Not sure the side and face vents should affect the de mist though? See what others say...
What model do you have?

Exactly the same on my 2.0 F/L. With the side vents and centre vents open together more air is flowing through the sides. Possibly to assist demisting of side windows :-/

Do you have the software update on yours? Have herd tell of customer complaint re too much blast from the the centre vents on auto, the update sorts it but at the expense of any heat from the middle vents, you may find if you turn the temp down, the blast comes back at about 21 ish?   I have taken to selecting face vent option(gives fuller blast on all 3 face vents) on the console to get my hands warmed up on cold mornings.

I wouldn't know if I had the software updates or not.
Where can I find out, would you know?

I'll certainly try the settings that you suggest and see how how it goes!

Thank you for the suggestion m8 :y

you would know if you had the update during your ownership, only done via tech 2 and usually by tech 2 owners on here and they update the gear box as well, vx dont do it unless you ask, and even then they probably would not know what your on about and charge a fortune to balls it up.
If a previous owner had it done i "think" on the pre face lift you can tell by the number of fan speeds,  7 or 9,???  need someone else to confirm this tho.

So, given that its a pre face lift and if it does not have the update, then that would suggest an issue. Easy things first, try the reset, press and hold off and auto together for 5 seconds or so until you hear the valves and motors start chattering and whiring should take about 30 seconds ish. On mine it only works with ignition in position 2 engine off, on yours it "should" work with the engine running i beleive, see how you go.

As said, it seems to be a feature of the facelift climate. I guess it heats towards the sides of the car as this is where any draughts are likely to be. Maybe it promotes more even temperatures throughout the car. I have verified that, when the centre vents are actuated via Tech 2, it is capable of shifting a lot of hot air through them, so it's choosing not to rather than there being a fault.

Mine used to blow a gale through the centre vents .. then TB upgraded the firmware and it is now hardly any when on auto, but the whole car temperature seems to be much more stable and conmfortable ...

Hi, pre facelifts blow cold air through center vents (at your head to keep you cool) and warm air at screen and side vents (stops you nodding off from warm air in your face).  I would assume newer cars are the same, I am sure iwill be coorected if wrong.
Try selecting center vent on control panel and see what happens
