3.0 cams in a 2.6 auto
« on: 01 February 2009, 12:55:12 »

I know there will be more power but what about the torque and power at change points.

Planning to fit them but don't want to mess it up for towing or have a hole when changing gear.

i think they reduce the torque at the bottom end but great for higher up the rev range martin!

Hoping that someone has done it - if I lost torque around 3000rpm to 4000rpm it would be slower not faster.

I have an auto and I tow as well

in low rpms torque values must be lower  :-/

high end will not be useful unless you drive a manual..

Best to wait for MarkDTM's findings with the Countess' 2.6 IMHO.

Conventional tuning theory says hotter cams shift the torque further up the rev range to get more power but, for example, if the difference is in cam lift rather then timing / duration, you may lose very little low down. :-/

It's quite possible that the 2.6 cams are mainly different in lift because it would have allowed them to keep the intake charge velocity high, giving better emissions. Until someone measures both types of cam, it's a guessing game, though.

agreed..

and there will be another side effect like increased consumption (hoping not) :-/

I have had an offer at a good price, and just want to be sure before coughing up.

They appear to be slightly higher lift and little else.

So the torque curve should remain pretty much the same at lower revs.
