Hi.

Fitted a new HBV today. Bugger of a job and not really sure if that is where the leak was coming from...

Anyway, in the process I have broken a small plastic pipe coming from a small plastic bellows type thing, in a larger pipe, coming from the servo?   Pictures below (I hope).
Can someone please tell me what it is and does???
It looks expensive as there isn't enough of the stub left to shove the pipe back on.

Can I run the car without this pipe???

Can I start the engine to see if I've cured the original leak???

What do I do next?  :-/

Pull the broken piece of pipe out of the larger section and then push the main bit in, if you know what I mean

No picture   but it'll be vacuum to the multirams etc It's a none return valve to the brake servo. You can buy the valve from Vauxhall (c£11 IIRC) but I'm sure you'll find one a scrap yard, some cars only have one pipe on though. becarefull with scrap yard valve though as they all seem to get brittle with age.
They WILL come off the servo vac pipe, you just need carefull aplictaion of heat to soften the pipe. Too much use of a heat gun will melt the pipe though.

In order to assist .. and I think that as its broken so near the connecter, you should be able to remove the broken bit and insert the old pipe end no problem ... warming the rubber joining piece with a haidryer might help ...

The big ones I agree .. but the little thin ones seem to be much softer I used a hairdryer on the one I broke on the back of the plenum .....   perhaps I was lucky .. ( nah .. if I was lucky I wouldn't have broken it in the first place !! )

On my photos, you can't see the connection to the small bellow because it's on the other side, but it has broken too close to the body of the bellows. So I won't be able to simply remove the broken plastic pipe from the rubber connector and push it back on.

I think I'll have to get a new bellows thing (does it have a real name?)

It feels fairly solid and a part of the main pipe. Does it come off? or do I have to replace the whole thing?

Sorry I'm not more helpful with my descriptions.

I was thinking about the bigger pipe. You manage to use a hair dryer OK?

It's called a none return valve. You can buy it seperately for c£11 IIRC  
As said, some have no small pipe take off, some have 1 - like yours, & some have 2.

I think were all talking at crossed purposes.
I understand the problem to be ... that the small pipe has broken off the none return valve. If I right, then the whole valve needs changing, for which you'll need a hot air gun to soften the pipes to/from the none return valve so it can be replaced.
Or get the whole lot from a scrap yard.
I got mine FOC as when the engine had been removed, they'd cut the servo pipe leaving the NRV on the car!

I'll try taking it off tomorrow, but probably won't be able to get a spare till Monday at the earliest.

Looks like I'm using the Scimitar for the next few days, and she doesn't like the cold much...

You should get it, Andy. Then you'd have a pair of 3 litre cars on the drive.  
There are still lots of Scimitars on the road. They are easy to work on and spares are readily available.
And they are FUN ... in the summer....



Plastic body doesn't rust either.
