But i carnt believe you tried to start it again after the noise you describe and it stalling  :o

To answer the Q, it can't be anything aux belt related - aux belt was off (after the clatter).

The noise I describe was a "terminal engine fubared" noise - nothing to lose situation.

I'll probably drop the 3.0 lump in, when I get some confidence back  :'(

I'd rather change a pair of heads, than crawl about under that thing for another day  :-[

Working under cars is something I don't enjoy...

Bu66er!  :'(

I once had a starter motor come loose on me (just as I was trying to out-drag someone off the lights ::)) and the noise sounded terminal. The fix was easy - tighten the 3 retaining bolts and carry on. It's not always as bad as it sounds. Given a little clutch judder preceded it it's possible something came apart in the clutch I guess.

Either way it's going to involve a bit of work to fix it I'm afraid. The offer still stands in a weekend or two - to help get it mobile again rather than to spectate at the LPG fitting ;)

I'm starting to recover from the shock of it a bit... it will be RUNNING by the time we planned to install the LPG - with a bl00dy 3.0 lump in there if needs be  [smiley=evil.gif]

After all your work mate, that's shocking.

On the "working under cars" thing, the only concern I've had was when I was gas-axeing bits of Mini off, and set the car I was under alight...  ;D

James you have to be the most unlucky omega owner i have come across mate

Not really

Don't forget - up till now, 99.9% of my cars have been project cars, on which you expect setbacks and failures - it's all part of the fun!

This is the first real serious breakdown I've ever had, with a decent Omega :y
