Cambelt change

Hi guys
           Can anyone advice me, just changing the cambelt on my 1998 25 v6, went to turn engine over by hand and on the second turn the cambelt slipped of the crankshaft spocket, now timing lines are gone, my first time  :-[ can i retime using the cam markings and crankshaft markings, ihave cambelt kit and can use cam guage to fine tune the cams
  Please advice HELP!!!!!!  :(   or is another belt, i hope not  :'(

realign cams to positions and the crank to TDC and refit the belt.  this happened to me so I've been there before.  Whatever you do, do not force the crank/cam just in case the piston and valves come into contact.

you need to get the cams back into position.  There are two timing marks on each cam.  working from left to right you need mark 1, 2 3 then 4.

My guess is that somewhere along the line you had too much slack in the belt (possibly in the side opposite to the tensioner) when you moved it the belt slipped.

don't think a new belt would be needed.

just take things steady and you'll get it sorted and post up further Q's we'll be able to help as you sort yourself out

    Thanks for coming back, been outside all day, yes your right to much slack, spent alot of time making sure cams were aligned, when on TDC then inserting the cam blocks, should of taken the plugs out would of made it easeir.
   First time forever thing, i have learnt my lession, just hope the bloody thing starts in the morning, have been told on the form that my crank sencer may be at fault, as the car will crank over but not fire, suspect cambelt jump a tooth but not the case, but cambelt needed changing along with water pump  Ihope

Sorry for asking this but how did it slip?
How far are they out now? might be best turning your crank to 60 degrees before tdc then lining your cams up again and starting again
Do you have the Vx locking kit?

Right.

Do NOT do it with the plugs removed as the lack of compression affects the belt tension.

Hi guys
            Thanks for all your help, car is running but was flat spotting on full trottle, be in contact with The Boy, have found that the mass sencer as gone just got to find one, all this time and money!!! to find that it was this, anyway i can say i change my own cambelt thanks to you guys
