Headlight switch
« on: 24 February 2009, 14:58:31 »

Yesterday I had to pull the dash display out to replace a lamp on the display , which meant I had to remove the light switch to do this . I changed the lamps and got it all back together tried the lights all ok . then I went to just double check all was working ok and I found I had lost the headlights etc . I changed the headlight switch for a spare  I happened to have and they are all ok  :-/ What could have caused the switch to fail completley  :question

Not sure I know what you mean. Why did you have to remove light switch? What bulbs were you replacing?

I took it out to undo the screws to get the vent off as I was taking the dash display out and  I have moved my sat nav and its hard wired and the wiring goes behind and pops out by the vent , you will see when you see the car next .
Just seems odd the switch was working and then just stopped working are the switches prone to failure  :question

The switches do fail, but its not common.

Checked the fuses?

Just had my H/L switch out to change the bulb - spring-loaded retaining clips were bloody strong!
Maybe it's 'just one of those things' but I'm sure the switches are pretty reliable.

never had any fail, only the bulb inside that illuminates the symbols for of/sidelights/dip beam

unrelated but I have noticed some of them have different sounding "lights on" bleepers
