Oil leak in my tractor...
« on: 27 February 2009, 22:26:36 »

I have an oil leak on my tractor that has been there since I had it, I have scoured the engine looking for it and not found anything.  I even tried some additive to seal the hole, but, still to no avail.  I do know that it is not being burnt and that it is not the Head Gasket (no Mayo)...

Any pointers for common miggy oil leaks?

Thanks.

Common one is oil seepage from the drain-hole at base of the EGR valve (front end of inlet manifold).
The oil then tends to get blown over the front nearside of the engine, around the timing case/injection pump area. The root-cause is a build-up of oil mist from the turbocharger accumulating in the charge-air pipe (embossed 'turbo diesel') at the front of the engine.
I've modified mine, and all but cured it.

'PM' me if this seems to be your problem.

If its using a fair bit, with no leaks, its probably going out of the exhaust.

Engine wear is possible, as is the turbo. Esp if you and previous owners have been daft enough to follow Vauxhall's service intevals which are too long...

The leakage signs are visual, just the location signs are not,  I am going to spray some degreasant around to try to assist the hunting.  Just after I had the car one of the AC pipes was changed at the back of the engine, so wondering if it could be a pipe then that was not replaced properly.

When I did the starter a while back there was a small amount of oil in the inlet manifold, but not a massive amount, not sufficient to be carry over from the turbo anyway and the turbo sounds smooth with no abnormal noise from it, when driving, the power is felt from the turbo kicking in...

I shall keep looking and let you all know where it was and what it was...
