high tickover
« on: 02 March 2009, 18:21:09 »

Hi folks, got a 2.0L auto, had a few probs with the IACV in he past, ticking over so slow that it stalled. Now it seems the problem has reversed, it ticks over at about 1100, and even revs itself upto about 1,700 (occasionally). Any ideas anyone?  thanks in advance  John

that sounds like an air leak.  Check the vacuum hoses around the throttle body (both end of them) are still connected.

When you have been working on the ICV , did you replace the gasket?

they are only pennies so worth doing.   Did this suddenly happen or after you were doing something?

It kind of intermittently and gradually appeared, before that Id cleaned the IAV maybe 5 months ago and it worked fine. Sometimes, this morning for example, it worked just fine, it sometimes just seems to be the luck of the draw when you switch her on.  Most confusing!

I used this guide on my 2 litre.
after the cleaning the revs would go up and down.My fault for being heavy handed with the accelerator outer sheath.not enough slack to adjust butterfly.
