Replacing the Brake Discs front and rear on 3.2
« on: 01 March 2009, 13:43:19 »

Hi - I want to replace all the discs front and rear on my 3.2 elite - the front ones are certainly in need of replacement and I would like a bit of extra stopping power so was wondering if anyone had any advice on any aftermarket discs and rough prices - I think the rear discs on the 3.2 are different to the 2.5/3.0 as in they are vented (I think!) .....or should I leave all that malarkey for the boy racer brigade and just fit standard.

I'd just fit standard ........ they're more than capable of stopping the car, and reasonably priced too. :y

Fronts fit genuine Vx - (~£70 on TC for discs and pads), rears not so critical.

Just done considerable research, as I am doing this job + a full fluid change.Went to the stealers to get discs + pads and got the dreaded word on enquiry parts SUPERCEDED what a play on words why do they enter into dubious terrotory by not useing correct terminology ie  DOWNGRADED ? Your right the 3.2 has vented rears and I would not consider useing solid, their could be an insurance issue. On enquiry with several motor factors vented rears were not made so it looked as if I was being forced back to VX on dealer only terms, but I then tried who I consider to be one of the best makers of friction materials Mintex's website, and their catalogue spec's all you need Discs, Pads even fitting kits. Outcome:- all parts needed I collected yesterday and are now boxed and sealed in my garage the total cost was £151.00.I'll detail it as best I can Rear Discs Pt No mdc 1747 inc tax £69.00.Front Discs mdc865 Inc tax £50.00. pads mdb 1651inc tax£14.00. pads mdb1540inctax£18.00.Seems all you need to do is locate a motor factor who is a mintex agent. if you need any more info just PM me and i'll be glad to help :y :y

Thanks Gents,

Cliffo B - I shall be in touch for your views on how good the Mintex gear is as that sounds quite reasonable and as you rightly say they are a market leader so I am hoping you find an improvement over the standard items.

Regards

For compariosn, the following are Vx trade club prices

Front disc and pad set 93175466 - £72.83+vat
Rear discs 93182287 - £81.30+vat
Rear pads 93169001 - £11.14+vat

Mintex can be good stuff but, beware as they do good and cheap ranges!

Oh I see - I have an old friend that is the parts manager of a dealer not too far away - I shall have to give him a call and see if he can source the said card :) thanks Mark  :y
