Hi, I'm new to all this!
« on: 14 March 2009, 16:39:32 »

My 1999 2.5 CDX Est has stopped locking on the key fob. It locks okay if I use the key manually but when I open the door the alarm goes of and I have to start the engine straight away.

Anybody got any ideas?

Thanks

Do you have a light on your key fob?

Yes I have got a light and I have changed the battery.  There was some bits of paper behind the battery which I have left in place as the light was a bit hit & miss without them.

Have found that sometimes the remote don`t work as it should but getting up close and pointing through window works, there after works okay till another wobbly.
Leave it to the experts now to come up with an answer.

Ta, but have tried that!

It's the fact that the alarm goes off when I open the drivers door (but not the boot!!!) that really annoying >:(

Sounds like the fob needs re-programming.
1.put key in ignition and switch on.
2.press and hold one of the buttons on the fob until doors lock and unlock
3.job done :y :)

As your remote is not operating the central locking either,
it may just need synchronizing.

As you are having to open your car with the key, switch your
ignition on and off, as you are are doing, to silence the alarm
and get yourself back to square one and remove the key.

Put the the key back in and turn on the ignition again.
Briefly press one of the remote buttons within 30 seconds
of switching on the ignition. (Make sure the light flashes on
your dodgy key fob.)
If the central locking locks and then unlocks then your remote
is synchronized.

I would think your battery holder has come adrift from the pcb and not connecting properly

I know , but it might be working on and off, i have a key here that lights up some times and not others, both solders are broke, and that piece of cardboard has probably been wedged in there to keep it tight for that very reason because his light is hit and miss as he has explained

When it loses power it loses syncronisation - hence having to resync.

Best answer is to repair the fob, repairing the battery holder is not overly difficult and if it is a strong repair it will last.

If you can solder, do it yourself, or pm Martin Imber
